Downtown San Jose Safeway set to close in weeks

In mid-April, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo gave credence to a longstanding rumor that the Safeway market in downtown was likely to close. A memorandum issued by a City Council member this week confirms the mayor’s statement and put a date on the closure — the store will shut its doors by June 14.
